With spectacular views over lake Bala and Welsh mountains, this wedding had a wow factor for wedding portraits sorted. The rest of the day was purely about the family, love, good food, humour and making amazing memories for years to come.
North Wales Lake Bala wedding – Sioned and Sam
What makes an amazing wedding? It’s people, of course. And if you are in North Wales, then you will be lucky to add some unique features. Sam and Sioned have blown my mind with the view from the top of their very own mountain. The exact place where Sam proposed, overlooking the Afon Twrch and Bala. Romantic and spectacular, the far away mountains (was it Aaron or Berwyn mountain range?) had a veil of mist and looked as gentle as the bride herself. I think we would be be totally happy to stay on top of that mountain – me drinking in the amazing view and Sam gazing at his beatuiful bride, but we had a party to join! Food and party is just as important part of wedding photography North Wales as the views!
And what a party it was! The largest marque, you’ve ever seen spread across a sun drenched field like a little town. The delicious canapés and the sit down wedding breakfast were expertly prepared by the Outside Gourmet Catering. As expected (and feared by some!), most of the jokes were curtesy of Harper Adams Uni boys. Mind you, the ad-hoc speeches in Welsh sounded hilarious too … to those who spoke Welsh! Which was pretty much 90 percent of guests. All I could understand was “Iechyd da!”
Hallelujah Chorus Flashmob
What I definitely could appreciate was the effect of the entire congregation singing Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus” as a flashmob orchestrated by Sam’s mother who happened to be an incredible opera singer. Together with accomplished voices of Cantorion Garmon, the congreagation raised the roof as a total surprise to the bride and groom after their first kiss! I think my eyes leaked a bit as I was taking pictures of people singing and smiling through happy tears.
How do you prefer to floss? Sam felt the urge to do some serious flossing at his own wedding in the middle of the busy dance floor. Amazingly, his new wife felt compelled to join him to the applause of the wedding guests. Of course I am talking about the dance moves and not the dental hygiene. See them go in the video above at 2:33!
Shout out to Tom from Tom Harrington Films with whom we seamlesly paired up during pretty much the whole day. Always great to have a company of a likeminded partner in crime. When Sam drove us all in his farmer’s pick-up to the top of the mountain for wedding portraits – we both assumed positions as ninjas to absorb and capture the beauty of that place. It was such a good fun!
Sioned and Sam – thank you for being so welcoming, relaxed and totally wonderful! Your wedding with all the incredible views over North Wales, the flashmob and the flossing amongst other things will stay with me for a long time!
