Sun, sea, prosseco, 250 of closest family and friends to cheer a beautiful bride and groom on their wedding day – what an incredible day to photograph! Italian weddings are really nothing like the Cheshire weddings I am so used to photographing. The quirks and little crazy touches come thick and fast and you can’t stop smiling and when it all gets a bit too much someone hands you a glass of Prosecco.
Little vintage white VW beetle driven by the best man. It was running an hour late to get the bride to the church, greeted by half the town at the church gates. A long ceremony when the priest doesn’t talk much about God, but about love and relationship… The congregation crying, having a smoke and a sandwich outside and singing together with a 6-piece band (including a double base!). Then onto a drinks reception on a terrace with the most incredible view over the Mediterranean sea… Prosecco in plastic glasses accompanied by the delicious olives one can only get in a posh deli here… Smiles, selfies, hugs – the usual wedding happiness.
Then walking though the streets of the old town to the medieval castle… Drinking beer with the locals on the way… Laughing with your friends and well wishers… Stoping only for few minutes for wedding portraits. Party, food, Prosseco and 250 guests awaiting and we drive like flipping Italians to the exquisite reception venue.
All white with palm trees swinging in a crazy, unexpected wind… Fountains glistening in bright sun… Popping corks and cheer. Photographing this wedding in an exclusive Esplanade Hotel in Paestum was a pure joy. Most efficient and friendly staff in white jackets and black bow ties serving, slicing and pouring – elegantly and with a smile. A buffet of dozens of antipasti, followed by the 6 course meal and buffet of many desserts – this was a real feast! And entertainment? How about 30 musicians singing, strumming, squeezing and pushing, drumming, flicking and caressing their musical instruments… more or less non stop for 5 hours… What a gig! Or and the groom – the most gorgeous man in the room of Italians – joining in on his drums.
The beautiful Bride and the gorgeous Groom
Magda and Pietro booked me a while ago knowing fully well that I don’t speak Italian and they don’t speak English. This is some real trust for you… I was truly honoured to be asked to be their Italian wedding photographer. I worked my socks off to create some beautiful images for them and was glad to have Gione from Gione Da Silva with me who’s help especially with the groom’s party was invaluable. Most of the images you will see are purely documentary. The couple didn’t want to be posed, they wanted me to capture the day as it was. Exactly the way, I love my weddings!!
