If you live locally then you know exactly which one of the Chester hotels is known for luxury. And style. Chester Grosvenor hotel has been that special place for weddings, special weekends away and celebrations for many generations. In grand style liveried doormen welcome you to the hotel’s lobby. And you feel ever so extra radiant in the glow of the magnificent crystal chandelier on the main staircase.

So I was not surprised that Ian has chosen amongst others this Chester hotel for his “little celebration” of marriage to Nikos. Nikos’s family was coming from abroad – all the way from Cyprus. It turned out that the Greek Bouzouki, Greek dancing and that unique Loukatos Mastic Liqueur are perfect accompaniments to a Michelin star feast in the splendid British hotel.
The small celebration which Ian has planned turned out to be an emotional and a rather luxuriant celebration. Golden confetti was still being cleared while the fine dining has started upstairs. Later in the evening, no one was surprised when hands and shoulders joined for the rather balletic sirtaki. The actual surprise came from one of the wedding guests who volunteered to sing a couple of Ed Sheeran songs with the band. He was absolutely brilliant!
As it turned out, despite it’s being a provincial city, it’s perfectly possible to have fabulous international wedding celebrations here!
I have offered wedding photography in Chester for many years, always aiming to capture the unique and quirky character of this beautiful city. Provincial, yet rich in history and culture it boasts imposing buildings and elegant gardens. Chester city centre really spoils us with beautiful backdrops for wedding portraits. The ancient Roman walls, the (currently) most photographed clock in the UK or by the picturesque river Dee – all ready and freely accessible.
Last year I had a great pleasure photographing a beautiful wedding in the largest Chester church – Chester cathedral. The real meaning of the wedding ceremony is not really influence by the walls of the ceremony venue. However, I’d be dishonest if I’d say the wedding ceremony in the Chester Cathedral felt regal and quite divine.
